Servers.. Dont you just love them?

So last friday I go on holiday for a week. And I have a really nice time. But about an hour after I leave my server goes down. I only just got to check it again last night. Thankfully it was only the PSU that had blown - it was red hot - and as I had a spare it was relatively simple to replace. Typical that it went just at the time that meant it was going to be offline for a week. I'm assuming no one noticed :)

And maybe another rant. Quite a few of my friends on adsl cant see my website. I can get to it from work, via my phone, and from most internet cafes. I have friends on Janet, the UK educational network that can see it. But for some reason on some connections it just cant be found. Bizzarely this comes and goes, and so of course my ISP cant help (its always visible to them, although not to other end users ON THE SAME ISP!)

Being used to working in IT I cant really complain, but it makes me think that I ought to locate the server elsewhere, and not at home. Only money stopping me though. Doesn't it always? Servers | ADSLHosting | Downtime | PSU 07 Aug 06 Add comment | Permanent Link blog comments powered by Disqus
