News and comment from my world...
Time for a new mac.
The old one was three years old, was still working great and due to the Apple/Sony battery recall had two brand new batteries. But the shiny new Intel Macbooks were calling out to me so I decided to get myself a new one. This coincided with me getting shiny new job as well, so it seemed appropriate.
It arrived! Its great! I love it. Even the box and the packaging were good (as you come to expect from Apple) One of the interesting things about the new Intel chip macs is that Wine works on them. A company called Codeweavers are developing a system called CrossOver Mac that allows you to run a PC app directly in the main OSX finder. This is not emulated, so it runs pretty quickly. Much better than a PC application ran on my G4 under Virtual Windows.
But the purchase has left one bitter taste in my mouth. While it was being delivered, Apple announced a revision to the models. I could have got twice as much memory and an extra 20 gig of hard drive space had I have waited less than a week. Now I didn't even know they were going to update it, and you cant watch the wind for ever; but I have to blow one big raspberry to no one in particular for my timing on this occasion.
